Welsh Highland Railway ‘Super Power’ Steam Mini Break

Ffestiniog Travel invites you to join the Welsh Highland Railway for its annual showcase weekend of special trains and events. We have prepared a special mini−break package for you to make the most of this steam weekend. Here are some of the highlights.

• Witness some of the world’s most powerful 2ft gauge locos on the UK’s longest heritage railway − hauling both heavy freight and passenger trains.
• Combination of 4 Garratts, Funkeys and Fairlies − singly or in multiple AND a surprise unique highlight.
• Numerous freight trains and recreations of early WHR trains.
• A photographers’ train will enable you to move around the railway to capture the best images.
• Tours of Minffordd Yard − the Civil Engineering Department stronghold for both railways.
• Visits to Boston Lodge workshops between 10.00 and 16.00 on Saturday and Sunday which will be included in your Rover ticket price.
• Beddgelert will host refreshments and a marquee with displays including a preview of development plans for a new Caernarfon station building.
• Dinas − a team of volunteers will be restoring NG15 locomotive, no. 134 which hopefully will culminate in the significant step of re−wheeling the loco on Sunday.
• A Beyer Garratt, K1, will be in steam for what could be its last Super Power ride on Friday morning.

A full timetable of events and train schedules can be viewed on our WHR Superpower Weekend web page. We strongly recommend you read and digest all the activities and timings to help you plan your visit meticulously. Our 4−night mini−break will ensure you achieve all this marvellous steam extravaganza has to offer, but we can also arrange a shorter stay if required as this is a flexible mini−break.

Our Super Power package is priced from £320pp (based on 2 sharing) and includes a 4−night stay at the 4* Tudor Lodge Guest House in Porthmadog with continental breakfast and a 3−day adult rover ticket for unlimited travel between Caernarfon and Minffordd to allow railway access to all activities. For those wishing to travel by train to Porthmadog for the event, we can arrange rail travel from your local, home station at an additional cost. Price reductions are available for concessions and privilege card holders. This is a must−visit event and offers an opportunity to be part of the inevitable buzz as people gather at the recently completed Porthmadog Harbour Station to enjoy the new platform arrangement and social get−togethers at Spooner’s new outdoor seating area.
